about weekend

The title comes from the name of an 80s band called 'weekend' who were associated with Young Marble Giants. No? Anyway, they were great and check out my bandcamp description if you want more info on that.

The vocal sample you hear is Ray Macdonald and the bass guitar is played by Al Vann.

It was recorded during covid lockdown in my analogue mountain studio in mount florida, glasgow.

Obvz,  I hope you like it and if you do, why not head along to my spotify or apple page and enjoy playlists I have made of music that inspired it? That might not be fully working til mid august, but...

Since I'm asking you to do stuff, how about signing up to the mailing list? Then I can give you news of exclusives, free stuff and the like and that would be cool.

Yeah?

Love oo. Speak soon

Fin. Xx

Yup, Alison Statton of YMG went on to form Weekend. Funny thing, I love Weekend (their timeless "La Varieté" is permanently in my top ten) but it was only a couple of years ago I realised that Simon Booth of Weekend and Simon Emmerson of Afro Celt Sound System is the same bloke. He's a Facebook friend and was pleasantly surprised that I have a copy of Weekend's "Live at Ronnie Scott's" album, giving me the impression that it's quite rare. Completist Joy!

Thanks Alan. Yes it was good to chat and hope we can do it again soon over a pint. Kenny, I remember you telling me that now. Mindblowing - I would never have associated the two. I had Weekend on an old VHS from a show called 'whatever you want' - the very first and short lived Channel 4 music show. I never thought anyone else would have heard them. Their sound is so fresh, still - agreed.
